The history of natural hair goes all the way to our ancestors. Some far as the continent Africa, many tribes and nations were the originator of hair styles of today.
Some hairstyles goes far back as slavery or during the 1970's. Black women were trendsetters when it comes to hair. These hairstyles hold a rich history with in the community.
Lets start with an popular one, corn rows been around for a long time, they became popular in the 1970's by Cicely Tyson, an popular black actress. She wore cornrows when promoting
a movie. The hairstyle start trending cause of her. Some were given credit for the hairstyle eventhough it wasn't theirs nor it originated in their culture.
Afros became popular during the 1960's and 70's, during the black panther movement, Angela Davis a black feminist icon wore an afro and it inspired black women to wear their
natural hair. They ditched the pressing combs and relaxers. It was a moment of reclamation, empowerment and self-love.
Wigs has been around since the 1950's, black women started the wig trend. Rapper Nicki Minaj wore colorful wigs and brought it back into style. Wigs were criticized
but many women wore them. During the 1920's, a french black entertainer Josephine Baker wore flapper cuts and finger waves. They became popular during that time and
they are popular at this time also. Finger waves are becoming popular among black women, this is for the women who has short hair. Many black women during the time of
the 13th amendment were force to follow the eurocentric beauty standards. Hot combs and relaxers were being produced a lot, blowouts were also popular. Now their is nothing
wrong switching it up, women got smarter on how to take care of their hair and how to be more gentler to their hair. They also became serious about their health when it comes to relaxer.
In New Orleans in 1786, Black Women and Creole Women were not allowed to wear their hair out due to a law called Tignon Law. This prevents white men from from engaging because
their black beauty was a threat to white women. All of this what started them wearing head wraps that are colorful, now there is no Tignon law but hair wraps are still being used
throughout the U.S and the Caribbeans.
Dreadlocks has a rich history, it is a cultural and religious significance among Africa diaspora. In the 1980's Whoopi Goldberg wore them and changed how dreadlocks are
viewed. They were viewed very negatively and not accepted by society. Children who wear dreads are discriminated by the school and forcing the children to cut their dreads.
Their white counterparts are praised for wearing the hairstyle while black people are criticized for wearing it and being part of their culture.Same goes for box braids and poetic
justice braids, in the 90's Janet Jackson was in a movie Poetic Justice and she wore the box braids, and they became popular. The style became more popular among black girls and women.
Like dreadlocks, women and girls in professional setting and school couldn't wear them without being scrutinized and being force to take them down or else they'll lose their jobs
ot get suspended from schoool. Box braids serves as a protective style to let our hair rest. Natural hair has been popularized by black people and to show our individulity, our history,
our creativity. Though many imitated the hair but the origniality and history is from the black history.
Debugging method I used was the try catch code for the error handling.
I tried using it for the input for location to see what happens. To be honest I tried
everything to get it to work but there were no error popup. I tried to see if I did
anything wrong for the error part but nothing happen when I am trying to get it to show up
on my page. Nothing happened. I did however added just alert it did pop up but it popup when the page load instead
when you forgot to enter location. I did put required for phone number but I don't think thats part of the assignment
requirement. I left the error handling in the script. I also added throw to the try statement so it can show Enter
your location at the top.
